Microsoft has been sending a survey around that has caused many to believe that an AppStore or Software Center is in the works, possibly or Windows 7 or Windows 8. A potential AppStore would have many benefits. One, you wouldn’t have to visit a dozen websites every time you format since all the apps could be retrieved from within the OS. Secondly, Microsoft would definitely make sure all the downloads were deemed safe before posting them into the store or directory.
Here are some of the more interesting features that this “AppStore” may have judging from the questions asked in the survey:
ArsTechnica has a copy of the survey. Judging from some of the questions asked, looks like Microsoft is leaning towards a central software location to deal with anything related to apps on the computer. Seeing such a feature in Windows 7 probably isn’t likely since Ballmer said the Beta was pretty much feature-complete. But seeing how Windows 7 seems to focus on better usability and being more helpful, it could be a possibility. What do you think? Let us know in the comments.

I hope they press ahead with an appstore, Linux and other platforms have had this for a long time. It seems inevitable, and I’m sure they’ll get a good implementation (without bloat, like Steam).
