This tool will allow you to customize the logon screen for Windows 7 without touching the registry at all. Simply download the piece of software, and make sure to Run as Administrator. Thanks to GreenMartian from Neowin for creating this tool, and djlegion from our forums for providing this nice skin.
This tool has many features that make it easy to use:
- The enable option allows you to change the logon background. The disable option restores the logon background back to default with just one click.
- Resize the selected image to your current resolution
- Finds the highest JPG compression that would still keep it under 256kb. (Logon backgrounds cannot exceed this size)
- Saves the selected image as backgroundDefault.jpg and creates a backup of the original

Is there anyway to make this work over dual screens? I can’t find any method for changing the login background and have it display over dual monitors..? My second monitor just goes black but you can see the mouse moving over it.

Thats normal you cannot see the logon screen on both mods unless you have it to mirror screen.

any reason this wont work when run as administrator and no errors pop ? it says all successful, then no change. the hardware is an hp mini 1101, SSD disk, Win7 RC build.

Is there any way to get rid of the picture and frame in the center of the screen and just have a normal Windows prompt for user id and password? The large frame kinda ruins any background image.

Does not stretch over Eyefinity resolutions. 5760×1200 looks like 2100×1200 centered.
