ASUS CEO confirms Windows 7 release for second half of 2009

The headline should be no surprise for you at all if you have been paying attention to what ASUS has been saying about their EEE laptops and Windows. This time, we have stronger confirmation that Windows 7 should indeed be coming out earlier than expected thanks to an interview conducted by Laptopmag with ASUS CEO Jerry Shen.

I think we could, but we don’t plan on putting Vista on any of the Eee PCs. I think in the future in the second half of next year we will put Windows 7 on Eee PCs. For now it will be Linux and XP and then Windows 7 and not do Vista.

The big question now would be how Microsoft will manage to pull off a full release around such a tight schedule considering that the public beta will not be released until the end of 2008, leaving only less than half a year for public beta testing. It could be possible that when he said “we will put Windows 7 on Eee PCs,” he meant receiving a copy of it for the first time.

You can read the full interview on the Eee PCs here.

  1. [...] Then if you take a look over at the Wikipedia entry for WinHEC, you will know that WinHEC is an annual software and hardware developer trade show. You might also have noticed that previous WinHEC events have taken place much earlier. We already know by now that Windows 7 will be released in the second half of 2009 after Jerry Shen (probably) said more than he’d like to in an interview. [...]
