We are now about 8 hours after the original time of release for Windows 7 Beta and Microsoft still hasn’t gotten around to fixing their server issues after an epic fail.
Just a few hours ago, Brandon from the Windows Team Blog made an announcement regarding the issue:

Due to very heavy traffic we’re seeing as a result of interest in the Windows 7 Beta, we are adding some additional infrastructure support to the Microsoft.com properties before we post the public beta. We want to ensure customers have the best possible experience when downloading the beta, and I’ll be posting here again soon once the beta goes live. Stay tuned! We are excited that you are excited!
We’ve received no information at all from Microsoft on when the download links will be up again. However, a member of the Windows 7 Center forum have posted direct links to the ISOs straight from Microsoft’s servers. You can download those for the time being by clicking here. Although we are still in the process of launching our forums, we hope you will be able to discuss on topics related to Windows 7 with other community members.
And finally, we’ve received word that if you were able to fill out the form required before download this afternoon, you should be getting an activation key in your soon. Some seem to have gotten theirs in their email. Some others kept pasting the following links every few minutes and eventually did not get redirected to the Windows 7 page, and got an activation key:
https://www.microsoft.com/betaexperience/productkeys/win7-32/enus/default.aspx (32-bit)
https://www.microsoft.com/betaexperience/productkeys/win7-64/enus/default.aspx (64-bit)
Some people have also claimed that they were still able to get a key even though they did not complete the registration process. Remember, if you did not fill in any form this afternoon, you will have to wait until Microsoft resolves their server problems before getting your key.
It seems like Microsoft is making some progress on fixing what was pretty much a complete fail this afternoon. We will be providing regular updates on the whole situation so make sure you subscribe to our RSS feed by clicking here to not miss out.

OK, so I’ve been thinking about today, here’s what I have come up with. 1) How can the largest software company in the entire world fail to realise that a tiny little update (you know, only 2.4 gig and requiring a registration process) would in fact be the most popular thing to hit the internet since FF download day? 2) Having been a member of connect.microsoft.com for a number of years, I’m a little annoyed that we got no special system like the MSDN people to get around the failures of the windows corporate site (especially as MS told the world (back when the release was ‘in December’) that it’d be released through connect) 3) Staying on connect, since lots of people got told to find the beta there, their message boards are innundated with literally thousands of ‘I want to be a beta tester’ message (making it dificult for people to have grown-up discussions about how unstable IE7 has become in the last 6 months) – I now live in fear that the board will become full of people complaining about bugs, rather than reporting them. 4) Thinking about Download Day, maybe MS should have contacted them to see if the record was based on number of downloads, or total amount of data. They are sure going to break data transfer records when they get it all working! Just a few ponderations. I’m off to bed (I’ll get an illegal hook-up in the morning)
thanks friend, you are a great man. thank a lot.
your rooooooooooock
What form? ? ? I didn’t have to fill out any form to get my key, just paste the link into my browser after I signed in on TechNet. Was that ID enough, or will the computer puke when I try to activate it WITH THE KEY MICROSOFT SENT ME? Heaven help us, this is turning out to be a real CLUSTERF”(#. C’mon, Microsoft, let’s tighten those sphincters.
