How to make Windows 7 log in automatically


If you are on a home computer or use one account most of the time, you may not want to deal with the log in screen every time you turn on your computer. This tutorial will teach you how to have your computer automatically log you in when it turns on.

Here’s how to have your computer auto login:

  1. Open up the Run dialog box (Press the Windows key + R) or click Start>Run…
  2. Type in control userpasswords2 Control Userpasswords ftw
  3. Uncheck the option “Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer and click OK
  4. Confirm your current password (if you have one

Now you will never be prompted to enter your password on the login screen because you will be signed in automatically.

    This is nothing new unless you’ve been in a coma for the past 10 years (Windows 2000) and possibly even before that.

    I knew the tirck before and used it with XP and Vista. I always type in the commands in the Start->search area and it worked but Windows 7, I can see you really have to use the “Run” box for the commands to work.

    Life is always a learning process!
