Fix BSOD problems caused by latest Windows 7 updates

A couple of Windows 7 beta testers faced a blue screen of death (BSOD) after installing some recently released security updates. The error message stated a failure on k11.sys and may be caused by a conflict with the Kaspersky Antivirus Program. WindowsFixUp discovered an easy fix for this problem. First, boot up in Safe Mode, which can be done by tapping F8 during boot-up. Once in Safe Mode, type msconfig into run, click on the Startup tab and disable Kaspersky and any related items such as k11.sys. Restart and you should be able to boot up fine.

Visit WindowsFixUp for step-by-step instructions on how to fix this problem.

The filename is kl1.sys and not k11.sys. ;) Which product of Kaspersky is used? Internet Security 2009 or the Workstation Solution (6.0.3.837)?

From a quick search on Google, I was able to narrow this stop error down to anything related to nVidia. Perhaps it’s a driver compatibility issue, perhaps you have buggy software from nVidia. I would suggest removing all nVidia related applications and updating to the latest Vista drivers if 7 drivers are on available. Try running installation again afterward.

    • Torsten says:

If the error occurs during the installation, I do not think, that a nvidia driver should be the problem. Try disabling ACPI in BIOS and restart installation again.

        Thanks Torsten and thanks Geo.
I will try it and report afterwards.
Maybe it is importand to know, that older versions of windows 7 are able to intall on my maschine.

HDD-Controller (z.B. SCSI, SATA, etc.)

      • wraku says:

        Hi Torsten
Can not find an o portunity to disable ACPI in BIOS. Disabled some power options without success for installing Windows 7 without the fatal bluescreen.

        Hallo Torsten

    2. normal boot
    3. uninstall kav

    hi!

Guys BSOD as i go on to the internet windows 7 crashes at times not always. can’t figure out why.we use kaspersky 2010.

Is it kaspersky compatability with windows 7 or is it somthing else and how can it be fixed
    please help

    • Torsten says:

KIS 2010 (9.0.0.736) is fully compatible with Windows 7. For testing, I recommend you to uninstall KIS 2010 and have a look, if the BSODs still occur. If yes, it’s defintively no problem of KIS.

  14. MsAqua says:

I have Windows 7 on my laptop and when I tried to do a fullscan with Kaspersky is when the BSOD came up on me. It keeps doing it any time I try to scan with Kaspersky.
I would like to keep running Kaspersky on my laptop so is there a fix that doesn’t involve disabling Kaspersky. I presume it was the update mentioned here so any help is appreciated.

  16. Rubz says:

After starting the PC, the screen gets all ‘Blue’ and after 1 or 2 secs, it reboots. There’s no interval of this error. Plz, in need of a solution. Thanks

  17. Britpack says:

Rubz, don’t know if this will help, but I was running CISCO pure networks on my machines, once I uninstalled this, everything has been fine since.
