Windows 7 Rumor Roundup – September/October 2009 release?

Windows 7 Rumor Roundup September/October 2009 release?

Over the past few months we’ve covered most, if not, all of the rumors that have been circulating around the blogosphere. We’ve decided to put them all together in one post, and see if we can draw any conclusions from it. Well first off, we are quite certain that Windows 7 will come out in 2009:

Then a couple of Asian industry experts tip off ZDNet Taiwan, saying we will see a release after October 2009. Contrary to an article from CNet suggesting that the release date will be pushed back due to harsh economic times, the experts believe the release date will not be pushed back at all.

Ray from bink.nu received several tips from colleagues suggesting a September release. This would mean the RTM would come out at least a few months before. Interestingly, Q4 2009 for Microsoft is June 30th, so whoever’s been spreading around the rumor about a Q4 finish…?

Just a few days ago, the CEO of a Taiwanese OEM called Compal tells us straight up that he thinks Windows 7 will be out September/October “according to current planning”

And finally here are some rumors about the Windows 7 Upgrade Program that should have some connection with the release dates.

We’re not quite sure why the upgrade program would be pushed back a few days from the original, but other than that, most clues from these rumors point to a September/October release. Upgrade programs typically start a few months before the actual product release.

When do you think Windows 7 will be released?

Personally I would say it is due out September. The RC will be out in April. I’m guessing RTM will be out June/July. There’s no reason to delay the release any longer.

It also makes sense that the Upgrade program starts at around the RTM release date because then it wouldn’t be too early or too late to start it.

Windows 7 is a great windows so far. However there are a few things that need to be fixed before releasing the windows so soon. I know a lot of people have tested it out, but I really do not want it to become another vista (gagging).

If however they have done the necessary changes that are needed to make this a great OS then I will go along with what Al said in terms of starting the Upgrade program around the RTM release date. I love Windows 7 so much right now its only a pity I cannot make it my main OS. I do hope they fix those annoying problems, they maybe minor but we can do without them.

Yes I agree. The Beta is stable but it still has a few annoying things that occur such as taskbar not probably resizing and compatibility mode screwing up.

I think RC is the stage where Microsoft needs to decide if an RC2 is necessary, and they should listen to the public. I’m sure that they have more than enough information on Windows 7 by now to know what needs to be fixed.

Have had two full days with this little gem so far, and it is TWO BIG THUMBS UP. Setup was very easy. No instructions required. You snap in the battery, turn it on and it works. I did not upgrade the memory, and it is plenty fast for my needs: email and internet. Windows 7 loads much faster than my Vista desktop, but doesn’t do anything better imo except you don’t get those obtrusive UAC messages. I haven’t deleted any of the junk software yet, will use the trials until they expire. I added Skype which is working great, and decided I can live without my Outlook. Moving my calendar to Google was easy. Netbook comes with 60 day trial of basic MS Office, so if you convert or already own a license, you may not need a USB DVD device. I’m impressed with how lightweight the unit is even with the 9 hour battery. I think that is pretty accurate time, as I still show over 4 hours and messed with it a lot today. I used it mainly outside on battery and the screen was very bright and readable. Wireless N has a LONG range,
