Several blogs today reported that Polish Windows 7 fan site CentrumXP.Pl had published leaked retail box shots of the product. There was much debate as to whether these were legitimate. Upon closer inspection by Long Zheng, the 7 shown on these boxes does not use the same Segoe Light font used in the Windows 7 Logo.
However, when the editor of CentrumXP.Pl was reached for comment, he told WindowsClub that these shots were indeed legitimate:
“These shots are not fakes. Microsoft has released other stuff like presentations, advertising (not leaked yet) where you can find these images, so it won’t change.”

Butterflies and lens flare does make things a bit suspicious. And why does the Home Premium upgrade box have two different colors? Developing market or not, they should maintain the same color, no? When we reached Microsoft for comment, they said they could not give any comment at this time.

Update: These retail box shots are indeed real as they were posted in a private Microsoft Facebook group spotted by Long Zheng. Some readers may believe these be concepts but usually they are not leaked that easily until finalized.
What might appear to be just an ordinary artistic design of the number 7 could actually be a new logo for Windows 7 as seen on the private Microsoft facebook group.

Do you see that dark green is for upgrade from Starter and light green is for upgrade from Home Basic.
Microsoft continues to offer all these choices, yet not matter what you choose, if it’s not Ultimate you don’t get the full features…I think we only need one version of Windows..well maybe 2…
Windows 7 Deluded Edition and
Widnows 7 Overpriced Edition.
yes but assuming your a normal user living in the us, youll only be able to buy home premium and professional (Ultimate on a limited basis) the rest are for businesses, oem or developing markets only.
Are you laughing at us?
me?
Meh, blue’s a good color for me but only if it’s the right shade. Any darker and the box would be the color of the BSoD.
haha xD good one
Last I heard, Ultimate is still going to be an online upgrade without a retail (store shelf) release. If that is the case, why would there be a box for Ultimate?
Stephen
Well considering that even download software websites sometimes have a box just for looks, I think that’s what the ultimate box is there for…just looks xD.
Guess what guys, they’re real
I’m really enjoy using Windows 7. It’s the cleanest and fastest version of Windows ever. I’m disappointed in the artwork if it’s real. I thought Vista’s artwork was much nicer looking
What’s the point of having Ultimate if there aren’t and Ultimate Extras anymore?
