Windows 7 Release Date Announced – October 22

The guessing game is over! Windows 7 will be on sale starting October 22nd 2009.
Microsoft have confirmed that this is the General Availability date they are aiming towards and technology partners such as HP are confident it will happen. Phil Mckinney, CTO of HP said:
We’re locked and loaded for the launch…The quality of code is just absolutely stellar.
In order to finish the OS on time, Microsoft plans to wrap up development of the operating system by the middle or end of next month. This means we will be seeing RTM sometime in July. Microsoft also said without giving specific details that those who purchase PCs running Vista between now and the Release Date will receive either a free or discounted copy of Windows 7. Interestingly, CNet reports that MS is considering a technology guarantee program that will allow existing Vista customers to receive some sort of discount when upgrading to Windows 7.
**UPDATE** A leaked memo from Best Buy gives more details of the Technology Guarantee program for Windows 7. The memo states that:
“Best Buy will begin a Technology Guarantee June 26, which guarantees customers a free Windows 7 Operating System with PC purchase between June 26 and the Windows 7 launch day. Computers running Vista Home Premium, Business or Ultimate qualify…The individual software purchases of Vista Home Premium, Business or Ultimate…also qualify.”

I started with Windows 7 build 7000 beta. Aside from build 7077, 7127 all other versions work perfectly !Two days of using RC 2 / build in 7201/ and I do not have any nota bene.Thank all staff who continually work to improve this system ! Will wait patiently RTM !
I’ve read on many blogs that the install process of win 7 would have been faster, but I didn’t really noticed any improvement on it; especially if compared to vista. It takes 35minutes on fast machines and 1hour in slow ones.
I just obtained my RC copy Windows 7 and had no problems installing from a clean start. It loaded on my home built Intel Core-2-Duo E4500 with ECS G31T-M motherboard having 2gb RAM and an older IDE 20gb HDD using a SATA adapter in just under 20 minutes. The system was up and running on it’s own with just the drivers that came with Win 7 OS. However I did install the driver disk that came with the motherboard afterward. Still no problems. The only problem now is installing some of the peripherals and programs in which the drivers or programs are now written for Windows 7. I haven’t worked the Windows 7 on the option for making older programs run in this system yet.
Everyone seems so excited about something they don’t have. Kinda like the saying that the grass is greener on the other side.
I don’t think there will ever be any hype as great as XP. W7′s hype and expections don’t even come close because AstalaVista was so lame and everyone lost hope in Billy.
Come on guys/gals, there is no need to rush into W7 when it comes out. Your RC won’t expire until March 2010. If you just cannot wait to give Billy your money, you can always send it my way. I always have room and can make time when people want to give their money to me.
Oh, regarding the leaked stuff, just incase some of you don’t know…these are planned leaked. Just realize that these giant corps didn’t get to where they are today by making mistakes.
