It’s been just two days since Windows 7 Build 7068 leaked, and already build 7070 screenshots have leaked onto the Internet. The screenshots were leaked by a member of the Facepunch Studio forums, whose father works at Microsoft:
I just came back from Microsoft, since my Dad works there. He works for in the SQL server division and here are some screenshots I took about the new build 7070.
I don’t know if there is anything new to this build, but they installed it yesterday, so it probably will be leaked soon. They said it was a major update; maybe not to the user interface but more to the Kernel. Just letting you guys know.
There can’t be a “major update” in the kernel but the screenshots look legitimate.

Sources indicate that the most recently compiled build was on March 27th with the build string 6.1.7072.0.winmain.090327-1845

Another one!
I don’t think it’s real because it says “For testing purposes only” and since 7048 it says Evaluation Copy … so this must be a fake
I’d say “could be a fake”. You cannot rely on the watermark that Microsoft could repeatedly change. Let’s wait and see. I just installed 7068 so I really don’t want to have to download another build right after. I’d actually like it to be fake so I can relax a bit. Unless I know what these kernel changes are, I might skip this build.
I haven’t even finished 7068 yet (50 minutes left YAY) but if it’s confirmed that this is real, as an enthusiast I feel compelled to reluctantly wait forever for people who won’t seed hardly for this build.
Bullcrap I agree with Jurgen
You say that the build string is 6.1.7072.0.winmain.090327-1845, yet the post is titled 7070, so which is it? 7070 or 7072?
Nevermind, read it wrong. LOL
We’re investigating a bit behind the scenes. It says for testing purposes only, however recent build leaks say Evaluation Copy. But then again, Build 7000 said For testing purposes only…
recent build leaks from 7048 say evaluation copy and I don’t think they going back by 7070 and start again saying for testing purpose only like they did by 7000 till 7022
Sorry but I don’t think that this is real and just a joke
The facepunch poster said he will post more pictures soon. I guess we’ll see then… will keep you guys posted
They COULD be going back to that text to maintain conformity. It would make sense that this is the watermark intended for the general public to see and let’s be honest, no build since 7000 was intended for our eyes, but by the grace of whatever diety you worship we’ve obtained them anyway.
Follow-up: Also, these screenshots to me scream of some teeny bopper who is more or less just showing off a domain on Microsoft’s network because he thinks it’s cool that he is privy, so they very well COULD be real but I’m not denying there is a chance they could be false.
[...] which indicates that the build was compiled on 24th March as per the screenshots. But Windows7Center says according to their sources as March 27. Rate this: 3.2If you enjoyed this [...]
Difficult to tell whether these screenshots are genuine, but at a first glance they look real.
However it will probably take a while until the build itself pops up the download sites.
Isn’t it possible that because the beta said “For testing purposes only”, that the public RC could say “For testing purposes only”?
I’m a Technet subscriber and read a lot posts already about 7070 in other forums and you can read mostly all the same about this. Well we’ll see what’s coming next

Are you sure this are real?
As the previous replys dictate (did you read them?), certainty is the ohe thing that is lacking at this point.
I don’t think this is real.
The screenshots don’t really show anything new, and the way he said “major updates to the kernel” really got me, as they would never make those types of updates AFTER the beta.
…another good point from John.
And where is the winver screen that is so popular to show us this new build string? Anyone who knows anything knows that’s what people wanna see, not network related stuff.
thanks for you

bcoz it says that “For testing purposes only”? it doesnt mean that its fake..it juz tellin that os is for evaluation like wat they did on windows 7 beta..it also said that for testing only and microsoft release it for public for evaluation juz to fix those bugz ruin on os…if windows7 beta also says “for testing purposes only” how can u say its fake even microsoft released it on there website…ru stupid or wat..
No not stupid but he’s rather being quite observant. Yes the watermark did change in different builds so a watermark can, but not necessarily, determine authenticity. Currently Build 7077 only says evaluation copy with no build string but just the build number.
