Windows 7 Beta Screenshots

There is not a whole lot different between Windows 7 Beta (Build 7000) and Build 6956 or 6801 in terms of the user interface. Here are a couple of screenshots showing off what’s new in Windows 7 and some things that I thought were worth noting.

Here is an example of how Microsoft has changed Windows 7 to be more user-friendly. Instead of providing the action alone, a description is provided below so the “non-tech savvy” can still use these rather advanced settings

Even something as simple as changing the resolution has help pointers located on the bottom left to help the user out. You will see these “pointers” or descriptions throughout the Windows 7  UI.

I don’t think the games will update themselves. It looks more like windows will just tell you when an update is released so that you can update it yourself. Still pretty cool. I only remembered day light savings last year because windows reminded me.

Also looking at the new start menu. Where is My Computer?

I’m NOT a fan of the new start menu. It looks too watered down to me. Hopefully there will be a Vista style start menu available from the start menu propertys screen.

U-G-L-Y. It is Vista all over again with a poor attempt to mimic the clean looking, simplistic, beautiful, functional, intuitive Mac OS known as Leopard. Windows 7 is Vista with a poorly designed GUI and a ton of new and useless features cluttering the “new and improved” Windows OS… I have seen videos of the installation and use of the OS from beta testers who used a video capturing software package and it freaked out with the video drivers and it didn’t know what size to project the OS onto the screen (but did you expect it to run clean, especially a beta version). Windows needs to start from scratch if they want to compete with the Mac OS. In 10 years Macs will be dominating the computer world if Windows doesn’t pull it together and start from the beginning and come up with a whole new concept (or at the very least… cheat and steal ideas from apple / steve jobs (bill does that well). They should copy Mac’s OS EXACTLY instead of trying to build off of Vista and expand and add new features. They are heading in the wrong direction without a doubt.

Has anybody here tested the beta? I wouldn’t dare put Vista on my computer and after seeing videos of 7, I don’t think I would attempt that installation either. I say stick with XP and if not that then go back before the millennium to Win98.
