I’ve been using the 7000 build since it was released last month or so – however it was only a couple of days ago that I noticed a couple of minor items had been removed from the start menu options.
Unfortunately I never took a screenshot from Build 6801, but I can guarantee these changes really have been removed. As you know in the ‘Customize Start Menu’ options menu you can change around a few items you’d like to show or hide on the Start Menu. One of the most welcome changes was of course the addition of ‘Video’ which was missing from Vista, however Build 6801 also included a number of other items.
Off the top of my head I can recall there being a ‘Contacts’, ‘Mail’ and a few others which I’ve forgotten. At the time I found the ‘Mail’ item particularly confusing as it to why it was there. Basically it was another more hidden ‘Library’ in which you could specify the location of your email accounts, presumably so rather than opening up an email application you could just search easier using Explorer.
The ‘Contacts’ link made a little more sense as it simply linked to the Contacts folder still present in each User folder and left over from Vista.
I have no idea why these two items, and others I can’t remember were there to begin with, or why they where removed – however they were not the only confusingly hidden ‘feature’.
Anyway, I hadn’t seen this pointed out elsewhere so I thought I’d bring it up =)
