Survey shows testers are happy with Windows 7

ComputerWorld reports that in a recent poll conducted, Windows 7 beta testers are four times more likely to be happy with Windows 7 than early users of Windows Vista. This is seen as a factor that is driving more than half the companies surveyed to drop Vista adoption plans.

An additional poll was conducted by ChangeWave Research and the results were that 44% of the 68 IT Professionals polled said they were “very satisfied” with Windows 7 Beta. In contrast, a similar survey was conducted a few weeks after Vista’s launch and found only 10% of the respondents satisfied. The main reason for satisfaction was improved performance in Windows 7 due to lesser memory consumption, faster boot time, and quicker installation.

In the same survey, 2000 enterprise users responsible for IT purchases were polled.

  • 53% of respondents said that their businesses will skip Vista and wait for Windows 7
  • Only 15% said they would deploy Windows Vista
  • 14% said that their companies were already delaying some PC and server purchases in anticipation of Windows 7

Interestingly, Neowin reports that a survey done by Changewave in February 2008 showed 58% of respondents to be “very satisfied” with Mac OS Leopard, just 9% higher than the satisfaction rate for Windows 7. Keep in mind that Windows 7 has yet to reach RC so there’s still potential for satisfaction rates to increase.
