Seattle PC Builder comes up with their own Windows 7 Upgrade Offer

Seattle PC Builder Puget Sound Systems Inc decided to beat Microsoft to their own upgrade plan by offering free Windows 7 Upgrades to customers who buy Vista-powered machines starting next week. Puget will be ahead of competing hardware vendors and Microsoft by months since Microsoft’s upgrade program only starts on July 1, 2009.

The company’s president Jon Bach says,

This is completely independent of any Microsoft [upgrade] program for Windows 7

The program that starts next week will allow for an upgrade to the 64-bit edition of Windows 7 Ultiamte to any customer that purchases a system over $1000 and equipped with a 64-bit edition of Windows Vista. The company says they are considering upgrade options for customers who opt for a Home Premium version of Vista.

Puget will require its customers to return the systems to their facilities for upgrades to ensure that everything goes well. Customers will only be responsible for shipping fees. The costs involved will allow the company to break-even on sales. Although no profit is earned, the company is hoping this extra exposure will allow them to increase sales during these hard economic times. Puget’s upgrade program will end on June 15th, and upgrades will occur 30 days after the public launch of Windows 7.

Hopefully we will see other hardware vendors follow suit soon.
