A new rumor suggests that Microsoft is considering the possibility of delivering Windows 7 via USB thumb drives. Currently there are only two methods of obtaining Windows 7: via retail or via download. A USB thumb option would ease the installation process for netbook customers that don’t have the liberty of installing via a CD if they choose to purchase a retail version. CNet posted the rumor when they received a tip from a source saying that the move is still under consideration. However, Senior Vice President Bill Veghte had said in an interview earlier that Microsoft had nothing to announce related to this matter.
A USB Drive option would offer the simplest way of installing Windows 7 on a netbook. This could also be done manually as beta testers have been doing since the beta, but it would be an inconvenient task for many Windows 7 customers on netbooks.

That would be a cool step.
This is one of the most coolest feature of 7 that, we can install it without the need of “boot from DVD”(if an OS is pre installed on the system) i.e. we can simply install it like any other software from any storage media (HardDrive/ USB Drive).
USB drives are much more expensive than DVDs but I think users would be willing to pay an extra few dollars for a USB stick with the OS installed
