Back in May, Microsoft posted a job opening for Virtual Hard Disk related work for Windows 7. Virtual Hard Disk is technology that allows you create, mount, and unmount disk images without any additional software, much like what you see in Windows Virtual PC.
But if you take a look at the WinHEC agenda, you will see that there is a scheduled session for Virtual Hard Disks and Windows Server 2008. Although Windows Server 2008 and Windows 7 are based off the same kernel, many weren’t sure if this feature would be switched on in Windows 7. Long Zheng managed to snag a photo of the Device Manager in Windows 7, confirming that VHD native support will indeed be in Windows 7. There is no source, but Zheng is a very credible blogger. I suspect that this feature will only be found in the more expensive versions of Windows.
