Where to preorder?

Some of the retailers have free shipping,
which makes it cheaper than ordering directly from MS

    Thanks Jim T
I wish we could pre order the fill version, not an upgrade

  3. Homer_S says:

Best Buy is offering free shipping also.

Personally, as much as I like Windows 7, I can’t justify it as a purchase at the moment. I really need to know that they have addressed the array of problems in power management before I will buy it for my laptop. I would also like the not so great display driver for my HP laptop to be improved, and the numeorus Office 2007 quirks to be resolved. As a Technet subscriber, I will wait for the RTM to be posted and will run it until such time as I believe the essential bugs and issues have been addressed.

FWIW, I also agree that it would be nice if there was an upgrade program for Vista Ultimate users. I own Vista Ultimate and will want Windows 7 Ultimate and am irritated at the fact that there is no discounted upgrade path. I don’t expect it for free but paying the same to upgrade Ultimate to Ultimate as Home Premium to Ultimate really is not paying attention to one’s high-end customer base.

  7. [...] Microsoft wasn’t kidding when they said preorders had “limited quantities.” According to Engadget, Japan becomes the first region to completely sell out on Windows 7 preorders. Microsoft told Engadget Japan that 30,000 copies were sold. Despite the fast sellout, the Japanese retailers reported sales as “considerable.” It only took 1.5 out of the 10 days planned for the proders to completely sell out. Retailers in North America have yet to report any sellouts, but it still may be wise to take advantage of the preorder special as soon as possible before it is too late. I pre-Ordered Win7 through the Office Max web site.
They accepted my order then canceled it.
I periodically checked the web site. It said this item is on back order.
I clicked on the link that says track order and it said this order has been canceled.
I wrote to Office Max they said it was canceled because it could not be shipped to my area. I live in Puerto Rico. We are treated like a foreign country even though we are US territory and those born here are US citizens.
I wrote back to Office Max saying they should never have accepted by order, I would have kept looking. I cannot place this order any were else now because it was a limited time offer.
They wrote back saying to call them, give an order number they sent and complete my payment information.
I did this on Wed-Dec-02-2009. I have checked my back account and have not been debited, and I cannot find record of the order on their web site.
I wrote to them again Mon-Dec-07-2009.
I wish I can resolve this issue.

At the time of this writing. I’d say this is the best netbook I’ve used so far.

Just understanding what you are getting. It’s a stripped down laptop that offers decent performance for simple tasks like surfing on the internet, working with Microsoft office documents and a few other computer non-intensive tasks. If you are looking for something more than that, then you need to skip Netbooks and look at more full featured laptops.

What I love about the NB205 over the rest of the competition (which I have personally used or helped others set-up). Most of this is really subjective. As the overall performance of the netbooks are pretty much similar.
( ) Keyboard is full size and very, very comfortable to type on
( ) Cover although plastic also, is slighly less proned to smugs and finger prints as the glossy black on the HP/Lenovo netbooks
( ) Junk software free. The only program that was there was a 30-day trial of Norton’s. Which actually offered an option to not be installed!
