We’ve been running a poll since February 22, 2009 asking our readers Which version of Windows 7 Ultimate will you purchase? If you have been visiting our site for a while, you might have thought that our poll disappeared but we actually relocated it to the lower portion of the sidebar.
Here are the results, with over half our readers saying that they will be purchasing Windows 7 Ultimate.
Which edition of Windows 7 will you purchase?
Total Voters: 3,814
The results may have been a bit biased since it would be fair to say that most people visiting a Windows 7 website before it is even released are relatively tech-savvy. Nonetheless, it was interesting to see Ultimate win by such a large majority.
Although the word purchased was used in the previous poll, the big question is whether you will actually go out and purchase Windows 7. There is currently a big discussion going on in our forums about if you are going to pirate Windows 7, and you may want to participate.
In our next poll we will ask our readers: Will you pirate Windows 7?. Please let us know as to why you chose your specific answer. The results will be very interesting.

I chose:
“Yes, but if it’s good, I’ll purchase it”
But I may skip the pirating step completely if the price is reasonable.
If they put win7 up for $800 at release like they did with vista, then I don’t think I’ll be buying it legit until it comes down into a reasonable price range(<$200)
That’s gotta be a big “No” for me.
I’ll probably invest in Windows 7 Ultimate, as the latest rumors are that Windows 7 editions will have the same prize-tag as Vista after it had it’s prize drop.
Let’s just hope that the rumors are true.
I wont be buying windows 7 ultimate for 2 reasons (1) its too expensive and (2) i dont all those bells and whistles it has that home premium has. I just want a stnadard but not too standard os.
Theres also three factors I will consider in my decision if I pirate Windows 7. First it all depends on the pricig. If home premium is above 200 euro and second is how the performance of the OS is after the beta and RC. Thirdly is their Activation scheme. If im restricted in the ammount of activations I have before I call M$ to reactivate.
If the price is reasonable and performance remains the same or gets better I will buy the OS. But if the price is above 200 euro , The performance works its way towards vista again and my ammounts of activations is restricted I will no doubt pirate Windows 7.
What I am asking for is reasonable and M$ needs to realise thatfrom its customers point of view.
Vou obtar pelo Windows 7 Ultimate e como sou cliente do Vista, gostaria de comprar a um preço razoavel.
I guess I’m just an oddball then. I was thinking about buying Professional. I do not need every single thing the OS has to offer but I also want some of the features like Remote Desktop Connection and Group Policy Editor. Professional seems to be the perfect flavor for me. I’m quite surprised that it doesn’t have as many votes. I guess everybody just wants it all. I’m hoping that MS once again sells OEM copies to end users. Hopefully the OEM pricing would be cheaper and more appealing than retail pricing. I can’t do upgrade pricing of course since I made the switch from 32-bit to 64-bit.
I dont need the group policy editor and I dont want the risk of having remote desktop. Those are two more reasons I dont want windows 7 ultimate.
I don’t foresee much risk with remote desktop. If you don’t share your personal info with others, you should be fine. There are many other more prominent ways to compromise a PC other than Remote Desktop that are present in all flavors of the OS.
I think I should also purchase Windows 7
God, I’ll be pissed if it’s over 75$-100$ for an upgrade from vista.
I like windows 7 ultimate because of the features and I think I’ll buy it if the price will be resonable.
