NVIDIA Updates Windows 7 Drivers

NVIDIA Updates Windows 7 Drivers

A public announcement was made today on the NVIDIA website along with a driver update. NVIDIA has been working with Microsoft closely to ensure they don’t encounter and compatibility problems and are taking full advantage of Windows 7′s features.

When you install Windows 7 and check for updates, you are likely to get a driver update for NVIDIA drivers. NVIDIA has been releasing driver updates as Windows 7 progresses.

Here’s a statement from Mike Nash, Corporate Vice President of Windows Product Management (Microsoft Corporation):

We expect Windows 7, coupled with NVIDIA’s graphics technologies, to deliver the fundamental performance our mutual customers have come to expect. NVIDIA’s graphics technologies enable applications to take advantage of the visual capabilities in Windows 7 such as manipulating photos, video, and 3D graphics. With the expertise NVIDIA has in visual computing, they have been a key contributor to the development of Windows 7.

NVIDIA has provided downloads to their latest drivers for Windows 7 (both 32-bit and 64-bit) not yet available on Windows Update:

Download the latest v181.71 NVIDIA graphics driver for Windows 7 Beta (32-bit)
Download the latest v181.71 NVIDIA graphics driver for Windows 7 Beta (64-bit)

By downloading the latest drivers you can expect:

  • Better Performance
  • Better Compatability
  • Better Stability
  • Less Bugs

If you are not a Windows 7 user and want the latest drivers, NVIDIA has a scan that detects whether you are using the latest drivers and notifies you if there is an update that can be found here. You will probably get a more updated version as the updates that Windows Update recommends are usually outdated.

I have Windows 7 Beta 7068 and my Nvidia driver 181.7 keeps stopping and restarting itself. Sometimes I even get the BSOD. I have an 8800 GTX card. Please can you help – it is driving me crazy – I might even go back to Vista!

    • Al says:

Do you have the right driver installed, make sure you installed the one on the Windows 7 page at nvidia.com

      • Sheryl says:

I solved the problem. Seems I had a ‘rogue’ theme. As soon as I changed to the default theme, everything worked fine. I now have 7077 on and all is well!

  7. Sheryl says:

That’s exactly where I got it from. This is driving me crazy. It worked fine in Vista. I love W7 but I may have to go back to Vista if I can’t solve this. I am even getting the BSOD occasionally because it flickers and plays up so much.

I’ve a hp dv9222tx notebook with geforce go 7600 card.. I had some flickering problem in loading driver software in vista and switched to windows 7.. hp is not providing driver for windows 7.. Can anyone help me please??

    • Mark UK says:

Latest Nvidia drivers are 185.85. Go to Nvidia website for download. I’ve had many problems with Nvidia drivers in the past but this new revision has been fault free for me with Windows 7, Vista and XP.

      • Dipangsu says:

..but nvidia website is saying ..it’s for desktop GPUs.. will it work in laptop? and they are providing 185.81 as mentioned in this page.. not geting 185.85.. can you give me the link plz..

  15. Mark UK says:

    Hi Dipangsu
Sorry didn’t read your first comment properly. It seems that Nvidia haven’t updated the drivers for the 7 series for Win 7. Try using the Vista laptop driver 179.48; the desktop will not install. The Vista driver should work OK.

    • Dipangsu says:

      Hi Mark
I tried laptop driver 179.48.. it says hardware not supported.. and vista drivers both from hp site and nvidia site are not installing.. I’m an architecture student..need to run 3ds max, autoCAD, revit and Phothshop.. all these are not working properly without graphics support.. it’s harming my study.. don’t know what to do.. hp also saying they will not give software support.. feeling hopeless..

      • Mark UK says:

After the Nvidia install fails. The software is on your hard drive, c:/nvidia/vista/

Open Device Manager, right click on the graphics driver entry (probably found under display adapter or Other Devices), select update driver, browse my computer, search for the driver in this location…… enter c:/nvidia/vista, make sure the browse sub directories is selected.
        Hopefully this will work.

  16. Dipangsu says:

    Hi Mark,
after failing of installation i opened that folder-c:/nvidia/vista.. it was empty..
now the installation is saying there is no hardware found, so the installation will abort..

    • Mark UK says:

      Hi Dipangsu
Sorry you are still having problems. What I suggested should work; its been awhile since I did it myself…… but I must have cancelled the installation after the files were unpacked. I would try again and I’d probably try the Win 7 driver for the 8 series gpu.

  17. Tom says:

I’ve have nothing but back luck with Nvida GeForce cards on Windows 7 RC. My system is a minimum requirements setup for Windows 7 RC. I have a eVGA GeForce 6200 card, Pentium III 1.2Ghz, 1GB RAM setup. Windows 7 freezes/hangs quite frequently. Once it a while it recovers and I get a popup message that the nvidia driver recovered. Other times the screen stays frozen I have to hit the reset button. I have downloaded and installed the latest Win7 driver from Nvidia and the problem didn’t go away. I did a RAM test and the RAM is good, but the system is so unstable now it practically unusable.

Before I installed the GeForce 6200 card, I had a PNY Verto GeForce 7600GS card in there – and Windows RC 7 couldn’t complete the installation. The screen went blank after installation rebooted and stayed that way.

My sony’s geforce 8400M GT graphic driver wont install after I installed windows 7… When i try to install the latest driver, the nvidia installer says that im not running windows vista or windows 7 32bit (I just installed Win 7 Ultimate 32bit). everything else seems to work fine except my graphic card (No aero effects =-C). When I try to update the driver manually threw device maneger, Win 7 keeps saying that the current (crappy) VGA driver is the latest and best =-(
Ive installed all the latest win 7 updates and everything… WHY DOES IT STILL NOT WORK?!?!

    …help… SAM i am

    • Mark UK says:

      Hi SAM I AM

I think your problem is that Sony make better performance computers, have supplied you a downgraded a 8600M graphics chip and called it 8400M. Therefore get your Nvidia drivers direct from Sony. Youy may have to use an old driver until Sony provide an update.

      • SAM i am says:

        Hey Mark UK,

Thanks for replying, I did some more web surfing, and turns out that Sony doesnt plan on coming out with any driver updates to win 7 for any of their ‘out of production’ computers and laptops… I also found out that there are MANY sony owners in my same predicament… Than FINALLY, I came across a forum with a very altruistic member whom was willing to help all of us poor souls out, for nothing in return… a guy who goes by the name “TorrentG”… I did everything he said and my Windows 7 experience Index went from a 1(crap) to a 5.1(average), which is WAY better than where I was… For anyone else with a nVidia GeForce 8400M GT or similar cards having problems with win 7 compatibility, try this, but AT YOUR OWN RISK!

    • Mickey57 says:

      ….Here is something to try.
..Go into device manager.Uninstall the driver that you have.Reboot and let win 7 install the driver for you on reboot.
…This was not a fix for me because separate dual screens would not work and there was a Yellow flag next to the display adapter.
….I had to then go into update driver,Browse my computer for driver, let me pick from a list of drivers,Check the box, list of compatible drivers. The only one that would get me my separate dual screens was and old driver from 2006 vistaDriver assembly Date-10/8/2006 7:00:00 PM-Version,9.6.8.5.
….This is for a Geforce 6200 512mb AGP card though.I would still follow this procedure no matter what card I had installed

Mickey57 bath i have try thet and dont work.my GOD i cant believe this i have install my driver on my win7ulty fore my geforec 9500 gt

and what i have to do was this :

To those who have this problem (No NV control panel, the system does not been modified) people, one short question — Do you use English Vista / Win 7 and choose a country (other than default — United States) while you install OS?

If yes, there is a way to fix this issue (must follow every step by sequence BEFORE you install NVIDIA driver).

Step 1: In Regional and Language Options, change Formats to English (United States) and press “Apply”

Step 2: In Regional and Language Options, change Location to United States and press “Apply”

Step 3: In Regional and Language Options, change System Local to English (United States) and press “OK”. Note: This step needs to reboot your system.

Step 4: In Regional and Language Options, Copy your regional and language setting to Default user account and System account and press “OK”.

Don’t ask me why this works. Just try and error for two days to confirm it works at my side (Vista x86 / x64, Win 7 x86 / x64).

P.S.: After you successfully install driver and NV control panel, you may change all the regional setting back to your original setting.

  34. Rene says:

Hi All, Here’s what “solved” it for me. Windows 7 and a gforce 6200 card

The situation is a Geforce 6200 running on AGP 4x since my motherboard isn’t supporting AGP 8x.

I tried all the drives until I found a topic that revered to down grading the drivers.

At the nvidia download site I selected instead of my 6200 card the g-force 5fx series and selected windows vista as OS.
    And downloaded the 96.85_forceware_winvista_x86_international_whql.exe driver.
    Extracted the drivers with 7-zip.

removed uninstalled the drivers and rebooted in savemode.
Updated the drivers by right click in the device manager update driver.
Browse my computer for driver software
let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer
Have disk and browse to the extracted files.
Here the Gforce 6200 is found and can be installed. Reboot and done (For me!)

I Know it’s not optimal but after 2 days browsing the internet and trying all the drivers I could find, I don’t care. If I want a high end computer I need to spend some money.
