Anyone who is intending to develop applications for Windows 7 should take a good look at this. As deceiving as the topic might be, this isn’t a document about anything relating to logo designs. It’s a document that lists the requirements for an application to qualify certification for the pre-release version of Windows 7.
Long Zheng took the liberty of pointing out some main highlights of the 10-page document:
Finally the application must,
- Install and uninstall cleanly
- Install to the correct folders by default
- Support x64 versions of Windows
- Follow User Account Control (UAC) Guidelines
- Do not load Services and Drivers in Safe Mode
- Digitally Sign Files
- Do not prevent an installation or application from launching because of OS version checking
- Prevent unnecessary reboots
- Support multiuser sessions
- Minimize application failures
You can download the document here. The document is still in its preliminary stages and may be changed over time. But Microsoft does have a survey up to allow feedback. Microsoft wants to ensure that their developers are ready to avoid any hiccups in the operating system’s release.

I watched Conan on tour a couple days ago and it was very entertaining. I can’t wait for his new show to come to TBS. It will be the beginning of a new chapter in late night television.
