Update: Windows 7 RC expected by end of February

Update: Windows 7 RC expected by end of February

Microsoft is continuing its speedy work on Windows 7. News about the builds have leaked once again, and it is reported that Microsoft has finally moved away from the mainwin branch, and is now hard at work on the RC1 branch. According to Geeksmack, the last reported build from this branch was build 7048.winmain_win7rc1.090211-1625 and was compiled on February 11th, 2009. The RC1 name has raised a few eyebrows since Microsoft had originally said there would only be one release candidate. Microsoft has yet to make any public comment on its naming scheme of the builds.

It is expected that the release candidate of Windows 7 will be out in 1-2 months time.

Update: German news magazine WinFutur just reported that RC escrow is expected to be out for Technet and MSDN Subscribers by February 27th. No word yet on the release date for a public RC.
