Microsoft changes IE8′s first-run behaviour

Microsoft is changing the default behaviour of Internet Explorer 8 to allow users better control over the default program settings on their computer. Previously, IE8 would automatically become the default browser on the operating system if a user chose “Use Express Settings” during the setup wizard on the first run.

The new change will include a new option asking users whether they want to set IE as their default browser if their default browser is currently set to something else. This option was previously only available if a user selected “Choose Custom Settings.”

Microsoft plans to roll out dynamic updates in mid-August to quickly push this new change. The Redmond company claims that over 90% of IE users have set their browser to accept such dynamic updates. Network administrators can find more info about how to manage software and security updates on Technet. This move is likely related to Microsoft’s response to the criticism faced from EU antitrust regulators. Microsoft has already removed Internet Explorer from Windows 7 E as part of such efforts.

I only use FF because IE is such a crappy browser and doesn’t support hover at all. Firefox is the best browser on the market

IE8 is all I need. I don’t need cluttery addons in Mozilla, or to be able to move tabs around. And I really don’t care if one browser is a few milliseconds faster than the other. I could care less.
And really, it IS Microsoft’s operaqting system, so they should be able to put THEIR browser in it. Mozilla needs to strop whining and focus on adding features.
