This is crap! Why do they have to release 5 different versions!? This is ridiculous! OS X is only $120 and it has all the features you need. I’m drifting from being a PC to Linux. URR! I’m furious.

    • Bioran23 says:

Only the Professional and Home Premium versions will be released general retail. Ultimate/Basic/Starter/Enterprise you won’t normally find on the shelves, so really, there are only 2 main versions which you can buy.

There is two – Professional and Home Premium. They are the only versions which are being released to general retail. All the other versions are either provided by OEMs or through special promotions.

There were six editions of XP:

      Home
      Pro
      Media Center
      Tablet
      Fundamentals
      Starter

Just because you never saw most of them, it doesn’t mean they never existed.

What about Windows Fax and Scan? It’s not listed in the table. It was missing from Vista Home Basic and Premium. Interesting that they don’t consider it a feature anymore. It IS there in Windows 7 Ultimate, at least.
