Microsoft focused heavily on improving performance in Windows 7 and they delivered with boot times of less than 30 seconds being quite normal. However some tweakers out their might want to reduce this even more by stopping un-necessary services;using SSD hard drive (like the Intel X25-M) and/or by setting the backup ground image to a solid color as to not waste disk I/O loading the image file.
Unfortunately Microsoft let a bug through net that causes the logon process to be delayed by 30 seconds if you set your background image to a solid color.
Thankfully if you REALLY want your sold color background you can request the hotfix to resolve this performance issue from Microsoft at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/977346
Otherwise just use one of the really great Windows 7 Background images that come with it for FREE.

yep, i reported that bug about a year ago. installed the hotfix a while back.
Great solution! Changing your background color is one of the ways to take care of your slow logon. If this does not work, or if you have problems with finding out how you can change you background, I have a guide which will help you change your background in a few steps. Take a look here for some more tips—http://bit.ly/dfc7op.
adjust the ”visual affects” to minimum level to incredible improve the logon performance of windows 7 + use the above suggestion i.e of solid color background.
Thanks for telling me that!
Unbelievable! I thought it was my programs that slowed down my PC. I had never thought it was the “solid color” that cause the problem!
Okay, cool… thank you much for the info.
