How to download Windows 7 Beta without getting a corrupt ISO

Update: Please head to this post for information on how to download Windows 7 Beta.

This wasn’t so much of an issue previously but it seems that more and more people are complaining of a corrupt ISO after downloading Windows 7 Beta from direct links.

How to download Windows 7 Beta without getting a corrupt ISOA better way to ensure that your download won’t result in a corrupt ISO would be to download using Internet Explorer, which will allow you to download the beta through Microsoft’s download manager. But there are also some users that reportedly have downloaded corrupt ISOs even after trying multiple times with the download manager. After multiple tries, they’ve given up and resorted to using Bittorrent trackers, which seemed to be more reliable.

To download using Internet Explorer, copy and paste one of the links below into Internet Explorer. Once you have done that, you will be prompted to download an Active X Control, and then a download manager. Allow the browser to do both and then you can download Windows 7 Beta through the download manager.

Windows 7 Download Link (32-bit):

Windows 7 Download Link (64-bit):

http://wb.dlservice.microsoft.com/download/6/3/3/633118BD-6C3D-45A4-B985-F0FDFFE1B021/EN/7000.0.081212-1400_client_en-us_Ultimate-GB1CULXFRE_EN_DVD.ISO?lcid=1033&RURL=https://www.microsoft.com/betaexperience/productkeys/win7-64/enus/default.aspx

Seeing that almost all corrupt ISO complaints have come from users using direct links, this would be a much better alternative.

I used IE and the official download manager from microsoft and got 2 corrupted ISO’s in a row, then i tried direct download using flashget, and again–corrupted ISO. then i tried flashget and limiting to 1 server, and corrupt ISO……

the way i finally got a perfect ISO was using a torrent……………………..unfortunately.

    5th time’s the charm!

    • Brian says:

@Justin S., wow really? that’s interesting. I’ll be sure to add that on there. The great thing about a torrent is that it’s just not just one person that’s supplying it so if you do get a corrupt ISO, you can force a recheck and the torrent client will download the correct data for you. I know I might’ve been a little off with the terminology there but that’s the basic idea =)

      • Justin S. says:

        @Brian, yep….and i didn’t even have to force a re-check! i checked the MD5 and bang on.

      • Brian says:

@Justin S., Certainly very fishy. Someone from before commented and claimed that they had an identical MD5 as mine but still could not get the ISO to work. First the server crashes and now corrupt ISOs…

I want Microsoft to tell us how much bandwidth was consumed during the beta distribution, probably thousands of terabytes

      • Justin S. says:

@Brian, lol….ISP’s are probably pulling their hair out.

  2. CEE202 says:

    My story is….

The first time i downloaded the iso from Microsoft using the their download manager. After downloading the file i recorded the MD5 and checked to see if it was working on VM-Ware. It did work on VM-Ware, But after burning the ISO with MagicISO to a DVD-R, i tried to install it on my mom’s laptop and it said it was corrupted. Now i downloaded the file again with torrents, the the MD5 are a MATCH (The Same). Meaning the files are exactly the same. Here is what i think, i think something went wrong it the burning process but i did burn it at the lowest speed. Im gonna do it again using PowerISO to burn it. Here is my question for you guyz that got it working, what ISO burner did you use?

    Tank You!

    • Brian says:

@CEE202, You don’t even need to burn it onto an ISO but you can use ImgBurn. If it worked on your computer but not on a DVD something most likely went wrong with the burning process. Hope you get it working =)

  3. James C says:

Could someone link the torrent program you guys are using, hash sum, iso burner etc etc i just wanna do what ever it is you guys did to get a running beta! – thanks

  4. John Daugherty says:

I downloaded at least 3 ISOs via Internet Explorer 8 Beta 2 so maybe 6 & 7 don’t do the download manager correctly.

  5. Chris says:

First Download attempt was from Microsoft site – using Firefox Browser.
I didn’t realize The file size was wrong – it was small enough to fit on CD so I burned it and found it didn’t work.

2nd attempt I downloaded torrent with uTorrent and burned to DVD using NERO. Couldn’t install because various files missing.

3rd and final attempt – I downloaded from Microsoft using Internet Explorer 8 and burned the .ISO file to DVD using CDBurnerXP(Free utility). Rebooted Computer using DVD and Install ran flawless.

The only hitch was that my Intel On board graphics isn’t recognized, I tried to install manually and the system locks up requiring hard reboot. I have removed the Intel drivers and settled for the standard VGA. I have an old 3D fusion Geforce FX 5500 Graphics adapter that I may try. That card didn’t work well in Winxp as it conflicted with Intel’s on board GPU – or the driver.

  6. CEE202 says:

Well… i did burn thei ISO i got from torrentz using ImgBurn, But guess what? 2nd time failed!

but i managed to install it without burning it, just ran the setup from hard drive.

    but i still want DVD.
Whoever got it working pls explain exactly how you didi it!

    Where you got the iso.
what is the MD5 of the ISO.
what software did you burn with at what speed.
    and so on…

    • Brian says:

@CEE202, if the installation works fine on your PC but fails when you burn it onto the DVD, then the fault must be when the DVD is burned. After you burn the DVD, open it, do you see the ISO file or the contents of the ISO? Sometimes people make the mistake of burning the ISO directly onto the DVD.
You can also try burning at a slower speed, preferably the slowest speed possible. I don’t know why but when I burn DVDs and they skip, using a slow speed will increase the chances of producing a DVD with no problems.

      • CEE202 says:

@Brian, i do see the contents of the ISO. and i do burn at the slowest speed 4x, im trying again, downloading from microsoft with ie8. burnign with NERO 9.2.6

    • someone says:

i downloaded the is with IE using the download manager and used Daemon-Tools virtual cd drive to install

that removed the bad burn factor from the equation

  7. Haybarn says:

I had no problem with downloading 64 bit, burning iso, and installing as dual boot on my desktop. Used Firefox and Nero. Then tried the same approach from my laptop for 32 bit. Two burn failures with Toshiba DVD utility. Copied file to desktop over network, and Nero failed too, at exactly same point (24000 something). Erased file. Download 32 bit again to my desktop. Two more burn failures with Nero, all at exact same point. Gave up on 32 bit on laptop, happy with 64 bit on desktop.

You would think microsoft would know by now that using torrents to distribute software is superior to direct download.

Ive tried 6 times to download using IE and the MS downloader. All corrupt.
Funny that I have almost 500GB of anime downloads “non torrented” and almost never had a file error.
I’m too afraid of getting a Trojan OS to use bit torrent for a copy of windoze.
Sure would be nice to be able to try Win7 RC.

  16. Yeah, I get corrupted ISOs too…

I tried more than 7 times to get it running, yet, still can’t make it to work…

Each time I tried to format my pc, I always get different error code… That’s funny to me… Lawlz!!

I’m using 4 different types of download manager, 3 different types of ISO burner, and two different DVD Burners.

I tried to burn it at the slowest speed I can get, it still wont work…

    Any solution found yet??

    Thanks!!

  17. Nice post. If you have free time, pleas came to my blog. Thith is it – free spades download.

Ive got problems with corrupt files too.
The real fishy part is this : using Firefox in Linux, i dont get any corruption.
When passing the files over to Win7 laptops using http (be it apache or another), the file gets corrupted. (either using IE or Firefox on the laptop).
This is using PC to PC direct network (no hubs)..

Today ill try using windows shares, and other mediums.. It cant be that we get corrupt files “just because” :/
