France to only get 76000 preorder units of Windows 7E

Microsoft has always told customers that its preorder offer would come in limited quantities. But when asked for more details, the Redmond company simply refused to disclose any numbers. This restriction is most likely due to strategy more than a production limitation since Windows 7 has yet to be finalized or produced.

Windows 7 preorders in Japan sold out within just the first day after 30,000 copies were sold. Canadian retailers such as Futureshop and BestBuy occasionally declared Windows 7 Professional as sold out throughout the preorder discounted price period.

Disappointing news comes from French site PC-Inpact, who is claiming that there will only be 76,000 preorder units of Windows 7E available in France. This number includes Windows 7E Home Premium and Professional. Currently, Amazon France is placing a limitation of only one copy per customer to cope with the limitation.
