First security patch comes out for Windows 7

Earlier today, Microsoft issued an out-of-cycle security patch for Windows affecting many operating systems including Windows 7 after the vulnerabilty was reported after the pre-beta release of Windows 7. The security patch was issued to address a vulnerabilty in the Server service that automatically starts on every computer. The patch helps protect a computer from allowing code to be remotely executed if it receives a specially crafted RFC request. No idea what that is but the point is that it could be used in the crafting of a wormable exploit. The security update is rated Critical for all supported editions of Windows 2000 / XP / Server 2003. And rated Important for all supported editions of Windows Vista, Server 2008, and Windows 7 Pre-Beta because they have an extra level of protection thanks to UAC and other integrated security features of those particular OSes.

To keep your computer protected, it’s recommended that you run a Windows Update right now. You’re looking for update (KB958644). If you don’t see it in the list, you can get it manually here as well.
