DirectX 11 Confirmed for Windows 7

DirectX 11 Confirmed for Windows 7Microsoft just recently confirmed that Direct X 11 will be built into Windows 7, despite what was said by Product Marketing Manager Ben Basaric earlier this week. This should come as no surprise to anyone.

PCGH covered a few notes on what we can expect to see in DX11:

One of the APIs, Direct 3D 11, has been revealed to include GPGPU, tessellation and improved multi-threading support, the latter meaning better gaming for those who use multi-core processors. Tessellation and Shader Model 5.0 will require hardware which supports
the new API, but for the stubborn and/or cheap folk, parts of Direct3D 11 will be supported on 9/10/10.1-class hardware.

The more important news is the fact that this will also be made available for Windows Vista users. This could increase the potential for DirectX 11 to become more mainstream than DirectX 10. DX10 games and cards are still not popular today, probably due to the fact that the majority of the PC market is still running XP.
