ATI releases Windows 7 Preview Driver Package

Posted by Al in Windows 7 News on 12 1st, 2008 | 3 responses |

ATI releases Windows 7 Preview Driver PackageIf you’re still using the graphic drivers that came with the PDC build of Windows 7 (build 6801), you may not be fully taking advantage of your graphic cards. As Aaron Tiensivu pointed out, the drivers are dated way back to 2006! You may have installed updated Windows Vista drivers instead, but the same goes for those who did.

The good news is that the ATI team released an ATI Windows 7 Preview Driver Package for the following graphic cards:

  • Radeon HD4000 Series
  • Radeon HD 3000 Series
  • Radeon HD 2000 Series
  • Mobility Radeon HD 4000 Series
  • Mobility Radeon HD 3000 Series
  • Mobility Radeon HD 2000 Series
  • AMD 780G
  • AMD 780V
  • AMD 790GX

It would be nice to take advantage of updated drivers, but please keep in mind that these are preview drivers and will come with a few issues, namely instability with a few specific display configurations. Ed Bott managed to get his driver running smoothly on his ATI HD 2600XT. To avoid any surprises, it is recommended that you take a look at the release notes.

Here are the download links for the driver updates. Included within the file is the display driver and the ATI Catalyst Control Center with limited functionality.
