An interview CNet held with Microsoft a month ago created a lot of buzz when top Windows executive Bill Veghte said:
I’m telling them that it could go either way. We will ship it when the quality is right, and earlier is always better, but not at the cost of ecosystem support and not at the cost of quality.
Many assumed that Veghte meant that the possibility of a 2010 release could be possible given the conditions of the economy. However, Asian PC Industry Sources say otherwise, claiming that the earliest we should be seeing a Windows 7 release is October 2009. This goes against the many North American rumors suspecting a release around June and August 2009.
ZDNet Taiwan reported that although the economy is certainly a factor, the Asian PC Industry does think Microsoft is on track to deliver Windows 7 this year in the 4th quarter. Rather than push the release date further, the amount of marketing done for Windows 7 will be compensated.
Microsoft’s Asia OEM Vice Director previously stated that Windows 7 will be released late January of 2010.
