Sometimes when you are trying to tinker with a multi-boot setup, you may end up seeing a Vista boot screen instead of the new Windows 7 boot screen. There are also a number of other possibilities that may have triggered this to happen but I’m not going to cover them in this article. As a note, when you are planning to install multiple versions of Windows, make sure to work your way up from the oldest operating system.
1) Type cmd into the Start menu search box and press Ctrl+Shift+Enter
2) Copy and paste the following into command prompt. This command is for the English version of Windows. Make sure to change en-US to the proper locale if you are using another version.
bcdedit /set {current} locale en-US
Once you restart your computer, the changes will take effect and you should see the Windows 7 boot screen.

Unfortunately didn’t work for me either.
I ran
bcdedit /set {current} locale en-US
from cmd as Admin. No Luck.
Also tried
bcdboot %WinDir% /l en-US
that didn’t work either! Grrr!
Heres a paste of my bcdedit after running both commands

buenas tardes con los programas de microsoft me siento comodo
Wow. It worked for a few of my friends but did not work for one or two of them either. I’ll try to look for another way to fix this

Worked fine for my on Boot Camp partition, which had previously been showing the ugly Vista startup. Thanks a bunch,
.
For all you people who tried every cmd commands possible;;;;;;;;;;;; the only other way to fix it is to format your hard drive before doing a clean fresh re-install of win7:((((((

it doesn’t work
tried both command with elevated privileges but nothing happens, nothing
to have the new windows 7 bootscreen you need at least 1024×768 from resolution otherwise you will be reverted to windows vista old bootscreen…that’s all…
i have that resolution, but it doesn’t work…
My older system will not boot into windows 7 unless the windows 7 gui is disabled. It always restarts just as the logo starts the animation. I actually want to get the windows vista boot logo on it! Thinking of trying to install vista on a new partition with 7 already installed. In any case, try going to the boot tab of msconfig. see if “no boot gui” is checked. Not sure if it will help, but its worth a try.
I found it that MS put 2 bootup screen with Win 7 own logo and Vista green bar that depend which display size you use as it seem MS put limited on display size – cannot work if more than display size or different cable plug
Wont work with Win 7 logo and still running Vista bar >> either DVIHDMI cable or greater display size like 1280×1024 or more
Would work with Win 7 Logo>> recommend is 1024×720 only and either DVI-I DVI-I cable or DVI-IVGA cable that can work with PC to monitor or LCD TV – it will change to 1920×1080 when the Log on screen come up
It worked for me as I spend 2 days to work it out as first time I got the vista green bar then tried out the BCDedit that nothing change so I tried to change the cable to limited on display size that worked fine that got it finally.
what do you mean on your comment ?
“so I tried to change the cable to limited on display size that worked fine that got it finally.”
could you give alittle more insight?
thanks
ive tried averytng but nothing happens.. i tried the cmd adminstaror.(bcdedit….) ive tried lowering the reslution to 1024*7++, i tried easybcd boot loader as well.. but evrything is not working. nothing changed..can any one help me pls….
- Run the console as Administrator

bcdedit /locale en-US
and it doesn’t work for me, but your solution
bcdedit /set {current} locale
were useful. Thank you!
Hi,
First of all, I want to apologize for my english. Like you, I had vista bootscreen after installed windows 7. The thing is that it works very well on other PC. I tried everything, format, reformat and many commands in MS-DOS in the “run” utility of window 7 but I got no result. I found what I searched in the BIOS setup. Let me show what I’ve done:
- Enter in the bios (F2 on boot for me),
- Go to “boot” menu;
- Go in “boot settings configuration”;
- Change “AddOn Rom Display” to “[Disabled]“;
- Save modifications et quit bios setup (For saving and quit I have F10 shortcut).
- The PC reboot and then…THE AMAZING BOOTSCREEN of WINDOWS 7.
I really hope that it will work for you too.

The first option worked, just be careful with the version for me is Spanish-Spain
So…
bcdedit /set {current} locale es-ES
Finaly my stupid vista boot logo disapeared, and the Windows 7 boot logo is back.
I Solved the problem!!!!!!!!!!!
bcdedit /set {current} locale en-US
NOT WORKING (for me)
bcdboot %WinDir% /l en-US NOT WOKING (for me)
Formatting harddisk and reinstall Windows 7 ten times NOT WORKING (I HATE VISTA BOOT LOGO)
BIOS UPDATE = SOLVED MY PROBLEM (Windows seven boot logo = hot!!) WORKING !!!!!!!!
