It’s been rumored that PC manufacturers and partners will get access to the RTM version of Microsoft’s new Operating System Windows 7 as early as in September in order to get products with the new OS installed out on the market in good time before Christmas, but according to analytics at Gartner it might take as long as 2 years before the OS will generate an impact on sales on a larger scale.
The Global PC market is expected to decrease this year due to the global recession and a weaker demand then expected.
Many hope that Microsoft’s launch of Windows 7 will have the opposite effect, and that the market will be taking off and increase the interest to buy personal computers.
However, Gartner is reporting that there won’t be an immediate increase of sales of Windows 7. Although many companies say they will skip migrating to Vista and go directly to Windows 7, there is no evidence of a rapid transition.
Gartner expects that most companies require between 12 and 18 months to implement a migration strategy. At the best, the new OS will be well spread in the middle of 2011 according to the analysts.
Personally I believe this analysis to be correct; companies won't migrate to Windows 7 in a snap as soon as it gets released.
It will take time for them to plan and implement a hardwearing migration strategy.
