Windows 7 RTM set for 2009

A couple of months ago, wzor.net reported that the RTM would be out by August. However, Windows 7 Center has been notified by two reliable sources that the dates have changed. One of the sources goes by the name skurk and works at one of Microsoft’s partners. (so you can keep track of future rumors and leaks).
Just very recently, Microsoft told its partners that they will be receiving Windows 7 RTM by September 2009. The reason for the delay is because developers and partners are currently unsatisfied with the builds. No specific reasons were given other than that there are still quite a few bugs. If the schedule does not change, Windows 7 will likely be released in November.
A few days ago, InformationWeek reported a Microsoft Windows OEM Manager saying that the company is planning additional major announcements around the time it releases Windows 7 RC, which is in May. Our sources did not tell us if this was the announcement.

Has anybody been able to figure out why the said "developers and partners" are "unsatisfied with the builds"? How critical are these people? Kick ass signature, David.

the sources could not go into detail but both were intent on the unsatisfied part.
they both predicted November releases too but I think it is still too early to say so

It's sad that the developers are dragging their heels in creating Windows 7 compatible products and blaming "unsatisfactory builds" for their issues. I highly doubt that anybody from say, Adobe, or any other major company would knock any part of 7, even in it's current beta stage, considering it will make their products operate better and faster. I'd figure they'd be chomping at the bit to get 7 to RTM status as soon as possible.

Supposedly it'll be possible to get a free upgrade to 7 if you buy vista after july.
However the company that makes your computer is responsible for offering the upgrade if they want to offer it at all.

I guess it's just to wait and see.

I'd place my bet on September though, as it seems most reasonable.

August is a bit too close to the summer vacation periods, and Microsoft probably don't want to ship the RTM's when people are still away on holiday.

System Builders (HP, Acer, Dell, etc.) allowed for an upgrade to Vista to any user who purchased a machine from them running Windows XP and was "Vista Capable" when Vista was publicly announced in 2007. I think we can all agree that the impending release of Windows 7 is garnering MUCH more attention than Vista did, so we can almost bank on these manufacturers offering a similar offer.

I hope it's true. I'm getting some money in September. I'll be buying an operating system for the first time!
