Change Your Windows 7 WEI Index

    well, herez wat u do...

    1. Open up Windows Explorer & Browse to C:\Windows\Performance\WinSAT\DataStore.

2.Click on the most recently created XML file there(its something like this....2009-07-05 01.12.28.985 Formal.Assessment (Recent).WinSAT) & take ownership of the file

    3.Open Wordpad from Start>All Program> Accessories> Wordpad.

4.Click on File>Open & Browse to C:\Windows\Performance\WinSAT\DataStore. Select All files as the type of files Using the drop down menu & select the XML file & Click OK.

    5. Under the section, Make changes to the scores given. These are the changes I made to strike the totally extraordinary scores.

    6. Save the file & Restart the performance information & tools in the control panel.

    <WinSPR>
    <SystemScore>7.9</SystemScore>
    <MemoryScore>7.9</MemoryScore>
    <CpuScore>7.9</CpuScore>
    <CPUSubAggScore>7.9</CPUSubAggScore>
    <VideoEncodeScore>7.9</VideoEncodeScore>
    <GraphicScore>7.9</GraphicScore>
    <GamingScore>7.9</GamingScore>
    <DiskScore>7.9</DiskScore>

Cool trick and thanks for sharing with us. Have you tried making it higher than 7.9?

I guess its cheaper than buying $2800 worth of SSD drives to get that disk score up to 7.9.

But do they get 4-second boot-up times? And most of that time is spent by the little colorful animation at the start. Does anyone know how to disable that? I notice very little to no disk activity while it is happening, so I think it's just wasted fluff.

Although Microsoft says differently, it IS mostly fluff...

Here's how you can get rid of the bootup animation:

In the start menu, in search program and files, run msconfig by typing msconfig.

Select the boot tab and check the No GUI Boot checkbox. Yep... it's that easy. And it shaved about two seconds off my boot time!
