Windows 7 Pricing vs OSX pricing - Too high?

When I first saw the Windows 7 prices, my first reaction was that it was still way too much. But then Microsoft surprised us with an awesome preorder deal that literally allows us to buy an OS for half the price. I was really impressed by this deal, especially when Home Premium was only $25 more than Snow Leopard.

Professional seemed to be double at $100. Personally I thought it was a lot more for just a few other features but MS knows they are important to those who need them, and $100 is still lower than what some of us agreed here as prices that are "worth the buy."

There's not much debate about Ultimate. It's basically the geek's dream Windows and MS knows anybody who wants it will pay the amount, so why offer the discount.

So I want to ask you guys what you think of Windows 7 Pricing. Is it the right move against Apple?
Personally I think so. Windows 7 has no limitations beside hardware that is too old. But we already know it works fine on a lot of computers running XP. However Snow Leopard is only $25 for anyone using an Intel Mac. All other users pay something around $125-$135 (I can't remember.)

For me, this is an MS win.

I think they could deff get more (USA) then they are now. People love windows! I think they did make a good move dropping the price. But really MS vs Apple in sale? MS all the way! Apple might have a giant leed on the mp3 player scence, but when it comes to operating systems, MS owns apple.

Lower price = more sales... I'd call it a win for MS.

I say Microsoft should have also given a discount on Ultimate, since people will buy it, and it would have been better

I think the preorder discount prices should be the final MSRP. $200 for an UPGRADE is outrageous (Professional).

I agree. Looks like people are pretty pissed about no Ultimate discount. It's too bad MS didn't go all the way with making people happy - Not Everyone Is Happy With Windows 7 Upgrade Prices - Especially Ultimate Users! ~ The Blade by Ron Schenone, MVP
